The film by Matteo Blanco is extremely representative of the dark ages we are going through now. The strenght of the movie stands in the fact that the character, a young writer suffocated by a dictature that restrains his freedom of expression, fights for his own ideas and his own sexual orientation as a human being. The black and white picture highlights with expressivity this uncomfortable situation.

” The world is round so that nobody can hide in the corners” parte 1 e 2
di Leonardo Goddinho

The World is Round 1

An essential documentary that reflects on two fundamental problems of our time still unresolved : immigration and homophobia. Taking as an example the story of a young Nigerian man, the film extends the debate to a universal level. Visually striking, each scene echoes the discourse using strong symbols like the tracks of the train that reminds the journey of the character, or this empty pool used a garbage dump, that reflects the inner state of those who went through so much pain.

Chutz”
di Uri Schachter
Chutz

This short describes a piece of life in a contemplative way, reflecting the internal state of the character. An intimate introspection filmed delicately and with respect. With this short film, the director Uri Schachter from Israel shares a very personal experience and a vision of his own country and asks fundamental questions about identity.

 Special Mention Medium Film:

This medium-lenght film leaves a strong impact because it succeeds in using the LGBT theme to tell a universal story of love, and how love can happen when and where the least you expect it. And for example, in the room shared by two “brothers”, whose divorced parents got together. A wider questioning arises, involving not only homosexual love but also the whole family and society contest and role, that sometimes, like in this film, are broken apart and reinvented.

 Special Mention Feature Documentary:

The documentary deals with the topic of coming out in a family contest, and with the fear of non being accepted, that comes together with the fundamental rite of passage that everyone has to go through when leaving the nest and go away from family. The director shares with us in a very intimate way his family life and habits during holidays in the French countryside. He films with a lot of tenderness the members of his family in their everyday life actions and while they share stories and memories. He also films their reaction to his coming out, the discussions that follow, and especially the very original and adorable character of the grandmother. The result is both emotional and universal.
