Nel cortometraggio seguiamo Albert Knoll nei suoi luoghi di lavoro come archivista e storico. Albert Knoll è dipendente del Campo di Concentramento di Dachau dal 1997. È membro fondatore del Forum Queeres Archiv München (FQAM), istituito nel 1999. Da allora è nel consiglio di amministrazione. Philipp Gufler, artista e membro attivo di lunga data del FQAM, ha realizzato un ritratto filmico dei decenni di lavoro di archiviazione e ricerca di Albert Knoll con un focus sulle sue interviste auto-avviate con testimoni contemporanei. Il cortometraggio fornisce una visione molto personale e profonda del lavoro storico di Knoll e del suo impegno per il FQAM con un focus sulla storia orale e sociale.
Parole del regista: “Da qualche tempo volevo girare un cortometraggio sull’instancabile opera storica auto-organizzata di Albert Knoll chiedergli perché ha dedicato gran parte della sua vita a commemorare i crimini contro l’umanità commessi durante la dittatura nazista e ciò che questo lavoro d’archivio ha fatto a lui. Una particolare attenzione è rivolta alla storia orale, in quanto mi interessa come, come partner conversazionale, si preservi le proprie conoscenze ed esperienze in un certo modo dopo la morte dei testimoni contemporanei. Dopo aver fatto tante interviste di testimoni contemporanei negli ultimi trent’anni ed essere stato colui che ha fatto le domande, ho invertito la situazione nel cortometraggio e l’ho intervistato.”

Philipp Gufler esplora le questioni dell’immaginario queer e riconsidera la storiografia occidentale in cui l’eterosessualità e un sistema binario di genere rappresentano la norma sociale. Nella sua pratica artistica, utilizza vari media, tra cui la stampa serigrafica su tessuto o specchio, libri d’artista, performance e cortometraggi. Per il cortometraggio “Proiezione sulla crisi (Gauweilereien a Monaco)” ha iniziato a fare ricerca nel Forum auto-organizzato Queeres Archiv München, dove è stato un membro attivo da allora. Il corpo umano è un tema centrale nella sua pratica, giocando un ruolo importante nella sua serie di stampe su specchi. Nelle sue trapunte, una serie di tessuti serigrafati, Gufler fa riferimento ad artisti*, scrittori*, riviste e spazi queer perduti. Il suo cortometraggio “Lana Kaiser” è un ritratto personale del cantante tedesco. Philipp Gufler ha studiato all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Monaco e ha partecipato alle residenze d’artista De Ateliers ad Amsterdam, Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture nel Maine, USA e Delfina Foundation a Londra. I suoi libri d’artista includono: Projektion auf die Krise, I Wanna Give You Devotion, Quilt #01-#30, Lana Kaiser, Indirekte Berührung, Un santuario ad Afrodite e Cosy bei bei Cosy.

Synopsis:
In the short film we follow Albert Knoll in his workplaces as an archivist and historian. Albert Knoll has been an employee of the Dachau Concentration Camp since 1997. He is a founding member of the Forum Queeres Archiv München (FQAM), established in 1999. He has been on the board of directors ever since. Philipp Gufler, artist and long-time active member of the FQAM, has created a filmic portrait of Albert Knoll’s decades of archival and research work with a focus on his self-initiated interviews with contemporary witnesses. The short film provides a very personal and deep insight into Knoll’s historical work and his commitment to the FQAM with a focus on oral and social history.
Words of the director: “For some timeI wanted to shoot a short film about Albert Knoll’s tireless self-organized historical work and ask him why he dedicated a large part of his life to commemorating the crimes against humanity committed during the Nazi dictatorship and what this work d archive did to him. Particular attention is paid to oral history, as I am interested in how, as a conversational partner, one preserves one’s knowledge and experiences in a certain way after the death of contemporary witnesses. After having done many interviews of contemporary witnesses over the last thirty years and being the one who asked the questions, I reversed the situation in the short film and interviewed him.”
Biofilmography:
Philipp Gufler explores questions of queer imagery and reconsiders Western historiography in which heterosexuality and a binary gender system represent the social norm. In his artistic practice, he uses various media, including screen printing on fabric or mirror, artist books, performances and short films. For the short film “Projection on the Crisis (Gauweilereien in Munich)” he started doing research in the self-organized Forum Queeres Archiv München, where he has been an active member ever since. The human body is a central theme in his practice, playing an important role in his series of mirror prints. In her quilts, a series of screen-printed fabrics, Gufler references lost queer artists*, writers*, magazines, and spaces. Her short film “Lana Kaiser” is a personal portrait of the German singer. Philipp Gufler studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and participated in the artist residencies De Ateliers in Amsterdam, Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Maine, USA and Delfina Foundation in London. Her artist books include: Projektion auf die Krise, I Wanna Give You Devotion, Quilt #01-#30, Lana Kaiser, Indirekte Berührung, A Shrine to Aphrodite and Cosy bei bei Cosy.
